At a meeting in Omega 1 on 18 April, the Khwe headmen of west Caprivi agreed the rules for an election to be held on Monday 8 May to choose a new Chief.

Assisted by WIMSA, the headmen of the villages of West Caprivi are taking steps to strengthen their local communities, and to elect a new Khwe Chief. They have written to the Deputy Prime Minister seeking her advice and support.

The indigenous San population of southern Africa and a coalition of NGOs are urging the governments of Switzerland. Germany and South Africa to take steps against the illegal sale of Hoodia products. The San base their claims on the Convention for Biological Diversity which stipulates that indigenous groups be given a share of the profits from the commercial use of local genetic resources and traditional knowledge.
